Lenten Fundraiser

25th March 2022

As we are now in Lent, a time of prayer, almsgiving and fasting, we have been reflecting on the needs of others and ways in which we can help. More than simply giving money, almsgiving is an act of love that incorporates both prayer and fasting and manifests itself by caring for our neighbours in need.

This Lent, we are raising money for Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough. Rainbows cares for hundreds of families every year who have a child or young person with a serious or terminal illness. Rainbows Hospice is close to our hearts at Bishop Ellis, as it played a huge part in supporting former pupil, Matty Hatton, who we sadly lost recently due to a long-term illness. For more information about how Rainbows Hospice support families, have a look at their website: https://www.rainbows.co.uk/.

To raise money for Rainbows Hospice, we are organising a Bishop Ellis Family Sponsored Walk. Parents are invited to join children and staff in walking/running laps of our school playground and field in order to raise money for Rainbows. Children are invited to bring in trainers on this day to change into for the event.

A Rosary for children to pray for Ukraine and Russia.

Act of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

In the light of the crisis unfolding in Ukraine, Pope Francis led an Act of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Friday 25th March. The Bishops of England and Wales, in prayerful solidarity, made the Act of Consecration in their Cathedrals at a suitable point that day. We invited the children in school and at home to pray the rosary (or a part of it) that day, so that everyone could be in prayerful solidarity with Pope Francis and the situation facing the people of Ukraine and Russia.

Walking For Water – CAFOD

Join the Water Droplet Trail in support of CAFOD’s walk for water appeal. You can get involved at home by creating a water droplet display in a window, and looking out for others on a walk.

Watch the following video for more information: https://youtu.be/jw6c-OKO89I

How do we join the Water Droplet Trail?
– Fill in the attached water droplet or draw and decorate your own! Don’t forget to include ‘I’m walking for water with CAFOD’.
– Put your water droplet in a window that can be seen from outside your building.
– When you go out for a walk in the area, look out for other people displaying the CAFOD water droplet! How many can you find?

Every time you spot one of the CAFOD water droplets displayed in windows around your community, think of people like Abdul and Mohammed in Ethiopia. The steps you take on your walk could help communities like theirs have access to clean water. Happy Walking!
