At Bishop Ellis Catholic Primary School, the health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils.

We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Monaghan

We have three Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads:

Mrs Gunton

Miss Turnell

Mrs Franklin

The role of the DSL is to:

  • Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety)
  • Support staff members to carry out their safeguarding duties
  • Liaise closely with children’s social care and other services

You can contact our DSL by email or via the school office.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare or we are advised by the Social Care team or Police. We understand the anxiety parents or carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset, however the school will follow legislation that aims to act in the best interests of the child.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the policies section on our website.

Out of school hours emergency safeguarding information.

If you are concerned that a child is in immediate danger, ring the police, if you have concerns about a child refer it to social care.
