World Book Day
Lesson 1:
Read the book synopsis below.
Charles Wallace Murry goes through a 'wrinkle in time' in search of his lost father and ends up on an evil planet where a huge pulsating brain called ‘It’ controls and enslaves the inhabitants. Can he, his sister Meg and his friend Calvin free his dad in this sci-fi caper?
Using only this synopsis, we want you to create a book cover for the book. You can be as creative and artistic as you like and can use any materials you wish. Please send us a photo when you finish this.
Things to think about:
- What sorts of things would encourage someone to pick up the book?
- What parts should be really clear and prominent?
- How much do we want to give away to the reader?
- Do we want to leave some mystery so that some of the images can be created in their imagination?
When we've received all of your front covers we will reveal the real front cover of the book and show how different our imaginations can be by creating a collage of all of your covers. We can't wait to see them!
Lesson 2:
What is your favourite book?
We want you to create an advertisement for your favourite book if it was turned into a film!
Look at some of the examples below for inspiration. What key things must be included? Use the 'Make a Movie Poster' planning sheet below to help you.
Extension:
Could you create a trailer using a free stop motion application like we did for Wallace and Grommit? You could even add a voice over!
