Year 1 Helping at Home

Dear Parents and Carers

Thanks for your ongoing help and support helping the children be the best they can possibly be. We've uploaded a host of resources at the bottom of the page to help the children with their ongoing learning plus some additional resources to support the children. They also have access to Espresso at Home (website) for the other subjects and the usernames and passwords are in the children's reading journals.

Thank your for all of the positive feedback about the more flexible homework system. We know how busy weekends and evening can be - some more than others. To help both the children and your time with them at the weekends, we have produced a homework grid however if ANY children are fighting with you, feel free to amend any of the tasks. Please talk to your child's teacher if you want any further information.

Some activities can be completed in a few minutes (for those extremely busy weekends) and some are much more open ended. You children can spend as much time on these as they (and you) want. The choice of the weekly homework task is entirely theirs and all we ask is that homework is handed in by Wednesday.

In most weeks, your child will have time on Thursday or Friday to share and celebrate their homework with their classmates. Homework will be looked at during the class sharing session and some may have a comment from the teacher. Homework is never formally marked though.

Spellings are usually sent before Wednesday each week. For most spelling groups in year 1, the spellings for the week will be available through the links below. Spelling tests are on the following Monday and your child's result will be shown in their home spelling book shortly afterwards. Please remind your child to put their spelling book in their bag every Monday for the test.

As always, if you have any questions about homework or spellings, please talk to your child's teacher or contact us through the form below.

Best wishes

Mr Jackson and Mr Haresign

These are the words that the children will be expected to read by sight by the end of year 1 and 2.

Cursive Letter Formation Support

Homework is a really important part of your child's learning experience which supports and reinforces the learning we have done in class. Homework in Year 1 and Foundation Stage will be sent home on a Friday and will need to be back in school in the Reading/Homework tray in your child's classroom by Wednesday ready for marking. Throughout the year, homework will be focused on mathematical skills, English work, Topic based work and phonics skills. Reading is also an integral part of learning in Foundation Stage and Year 1 and we expect that children will read 2 books to an adult at home each week for around 5 minutes each day. We ask that parents write a short note to let us know how they get on. Book changing days will be Tuesday and Friday and books/diaries will need to be left in the Reading/Homework tray in the morning and will be returned at the end of the day. Phonics sound learning, High Frequency Words (HFW) and short spelling quizzes are a part of the weekly home learning for children in FS and Year 1 and will require adult support. Finally, number recognition and beginning to learn number bonds would really support your child's learning in maths at school.

Please find homework on the dated links below:

Please find  the Year 1 Homework grid. Please choose and date one activity each week. We look forward to seeing your homework
