Lesson 5- Investigation

English

Morning 1 (2 lessons)

This week, we are going to exploring poetry. Read the  two poems below and answer the following questions for each poem.

-what is the poem about?

-what do you like about it?

-what are your initial feelings?  Does the poem cause you to think about places, memories, events?

-if you had £1 and words were 10p, which words would you have and why?

-what are you unsure about/dislike/have questions over?

-which is your favourite word/words/sentence?  Why?

-what poetic techniques has the author used? E.g. alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, etc. What is the effect of these?

- what is the same about the two poems?

-what is different?

-which do you like best? why?

Choose one of the poems to learn and perform to someone at home.

Morning 2 (2 lessons)

Read the poem, ‘The Dream Catcher’ by Pie Corbett (below)

- Which things made you laugh?

- Which parts did you like the best?

- Do any of the sentences give you a picture in your minds?

- How does the poem make you feel?

- How has Pie Corbett used vocabulary for effect?

Go back and look at the words used to create a particular image. Discuss the way that the ‘pictures’ in the poem may make you think about different feelings.

Highlight adjectives, verbs and nouns. What do you notice?

Can you highlight alliteration? e.g. ‘the thistle’s green fist thrust through the earth’.

Look at the noun cards (below)  add adjectives, verbs, etc.  e.g. noun – sunlight.

Think about what colour it is, what it looks like, where it might be, what it could be compared to, how to be imaginative with their description.

Use these sentences to write your own Dreamcatcher poem

* Love God * Aspire to be the Best * Be Honest * Forgive * Care *
