Michael Brown, the boy thrown overboard at sea just over a year ago, with his dog, Stella Artois, has been found safe and well by his mother and father.

Michael (now aged 13) was found yesterday in the late afternoon, on a deserted island in the Coral Sea. Speaking to reporters gathered at the port in Sydney on their return to the Australian mainland, Michael’s mother said, “It really is a miracle. I knew in my heart, as only a mother could know, that we would find him.”

Mr and Mrs Brown have never stopped searching for their son. They have spent the last year sailing around islands in the Coral Sea, sometimes returning to the mainland to stock up on essential supplies before resuming their search for Michael. Speaking yesterday, Mr Brown said, “It is only because of my wife’s determination and total belief that Michael was still alive that we are reunited today. Where I have doubted, she has remained strong.”
