L.O. I can listen and appraise music from a historical context and make my own composition.

Listen to the sounds of bells ringing. What do they sound like?

What instruments might be played in a military band? What songs might by played by one?

 

Listen to this track. What instruments can you here? What emotions does the music evoke? Think back to The Christmas Truce video – what impact did the music have in this historical situation?
Listen to some famous songs from WWII from the selection below and take a look at some of the lyrics - what sort of themes do they discuss? How does this link to what was happening at the time?

Jot down similarities and differences between some of these songs. Listen and appraise – what do you like? Which songs do you prefer? Think about the theme, the instruments and the lyrics.

 

Task 1: (Listen and appraise) Write down what you liked/disliked and say what you liked best and which song you preferred. Think about the theme, the instruments and the lyrics.

 

Task 2 : (Composition)

Today you will change the lyrics (but maintain the tune) of one of the songs to reflect events that happen today. Create a spider diagram of things that have happened or are currently happening that you could include in your lyrics.

 

Once finished, write this up in best.
