Liturgical Season: Ordinary Time
Thursday 4th June 2020 - Our Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest
“Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: ‘Father, the hour has come: glorify your Son so that your Son may glorify you; and, through the power over all mankind that you have given him, let him give eternal life to all those you have entrusted to him.” John 17:1-2
Today we celebrate the feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest, which we now celebrate annually on the first Thursday after Pentecost. It is a day where we focus on Jesus’ priestly office and where we pray especially for our clergy and priests to be more Christ like. As lay people, we need holy priests who are true shepherds, willing to lay down their lives for their flock, so we must pray for them without ceasing.
Prayer: Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen
