Music Making Sessions

Inspired by Joe Wicks, Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service (LSMS) are doing FREE daily music making sessions aimed at young people.

Unless stated otherwise, these will take place on their Youtube channel beginning at 3:30pm each weekday during the lockdown, unless stated otherwise.

You can access this at the following link:

Once on the youtube channel, if you scroll down you will see that there are separate ‘playlists’ for each day of the week which contain the sessions detailed below.

Mondays will see two sessions with Mr Thurlow - 3:30pm Ukulele and 4:00pm Guitar. Both sessions are aimed at beginners but assume some experience. As these videos are also being used in schools, they will be available from the beginning of the relevant week and available to watch straightaway. Further Guitar resources and Ukulele resources can be found on the Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service website.

Tuesdays will also see two sessions but this time aimed at different ages Key Stage 1 (3:30pm) and Key Stage 2 (4:00pm). Developed by LSMS Team Leader Becky Bell, Pitch consists of weekly 6-lesson resource for use at school or at home based on the LSMS Scheme of Work Unit 4 theme of PITCH. Learn about pitch, dynamics, tempo and the basics of timbre, through exploration of sounds. Viewers will create music to accompany an existing story and will create their own music based on their favourite story, poem, or range of emotions. As these videos are also being used in schools, they will be available from the beginning of the relevant week and available to watch straightaway.

On Wednesdays, Music Leader Andres Barrero will lead you through weekly Homemade Percussion sessions. These will involve creating instruments out of household objects and learning new rhythms.

Thursdays feature a weekly Beatboxing class from our resident expert Music Leader Shay Sharma. Check in at 3:30pm and let Mr Shay lead you through Boots’n’Cats and beyond. You’ll be levelled up before you know it!

On Fridays, join Abanazar the Musical Wizard for a weekly Body Percussion session, where you'll be invited to create music alongside Abanazar! You won't need any instruments, in fact - that's where the magic comes in - you'll be creating music from nothing! Tune in on Fridays at 3:30pm for a magical, musical and rhythmical afternoon!

We would love to see any musical/instrumental activities you get up to so please feel free to share them on your class dojo portfolio!
