Caythorpe 2019

Monday

Well we’ve all arrived safely and settled into our rooms. Upon arrival, we were given a tour of the site and shown some of the activities we will get to try this week. We have just eaten a lovely meal of lasagne, sausages or beetroot and goat cheese tartlet and had a great choice at the salad bar. It was delicious; everyone wanted seconds! We’ve now spent our daily pound in the shop and are about to go to our evening activity which is a variety of sports and games. We hope to sleep well as it’s been a long and exciting day!

Tuesday

We all survived our first night. All the children went to sleep fine and although there may have been a couple of tired eyes this morning, everyone enjoyed their breakfast and set off to their first activity with full bellies, full of energy and excitement.

We've had a brilliant morning and the sun has been shining! We've been abseiling, buggy building, zip wire, raft building and climbing. Everyone has had a go and really enjoyed it. We had a lovely lunch of either sausage roll, steak bake or cheese and onion pasty with mashed potato and gravy. One of the children said that it was just like Greggs! We are particularly proud of the way that everyone is encouraging and taking care of each other. They are making us proud!

We’ve had a great afternoon and continued the activity rotation from this morning. The sun has continued to shine (most of the time!). We had a delicious dinner of four cheese ravioli, chicken goujons or gammon and the salad bar continues to be very popular. For pudding, we had toffee apple crumble with custard! We are just heading off, with our torches, to complete a passport around the world challenge and then it’s off to bed!

We are all having a great time!

Wednesday

Everyone slept brilliantly last night and we were all quiet by half past nine!

We've just had a delicious breakfast of sausages (meat or vegetarian), beans, mushrooms and toast along with a huge selection of cereal, yogurt and fruit. We're just about to head off for a morning of kayaking and the sun is shining!

We have been having a 'Best room' competition and as you can see there is a huge improvement from Monday to Tuesday (marks are out of 10!)

We've all had a brilliant morning kayaking together. Everyone got in their kayak and had a brilliant time; a first for Bishop Ellis where all the children took part in a water activity. It was amazing to hear everyone say they felt they'd really achieved something and say they were really proud of themselves. Quite a few children fell into the water (both on purpose and by accident) but soon acclimatized to the water temperature and were ready for more. Showers were needed all round before lunch. For lunch we had the choice of a baguette and crisps or a carrot and coriander soup, as well as the usual salad bar, which everyone always enjoys.

We’ve had a brilliant afternoon of problem solving and climbing Jacob’s ladder. Everyone gave it a go and the children keep encouraging each other to push and challenge themselves. Dinner was delicious again with a choice of fish fingers, chips and beans or hoisin noodles or chilli and rice. Everyone is taking part in a photograph challenge and then it’s time for bed!

Thursday

Thursday morning and we can’t believe we only have one more day night left! Everyone slept brilliantly last night and it was lights out and asleep by 9.40! We’ve just had another delicious breakfast of bacon, veggie sausages, scrambled egg and grilled tomatoes along with the usual cereals, fruit and yogurt. Everyone has just set off for a morning of zip-wire, orienteering, or low ropes.

Wednesday’s best room competition.

Wednesday’s best room competition. 1
Another brilliant afternoon. It has honestly been so amazing to see the children so proud of themselves for achieving things they didn’t think they could. As a teacher, it reminds me of why I went into teaching in the first place. This afternoons challenge’s have been vertical challenge, trapeze (probably the most scariest and highest activity so far), giant swing and climbing. Dinner, yet again, was delicious and consisted of pasta bake, chicken, rice and veg or a vegetable curry. The children are currently outside playing robot wars and thoroughly enjoying themselves.
