Our House Points System at Bishop Ellis gives the children an additional reason to always try their very best. Children are grouped into four house teams named after a saint. At the start of every academic year, every child is given one of these four saints to support. Every term, the children compete with each other in friendly rivalry with the house cup being awarded to the winning house. The children also compete in their teams in our annual Sports Day.
House Points (or 'Smilies') can be awarded by all staff to children for a variety of reasons. For example:
• Polite, well mannered behaviour
• Demonstrating a caring attitude towards peers
• Working to the best of their ability
• Good attendance
• Putting special effort into a piece of work
• Neatly presented work
• Positive attitude towards work
• Sporting achievement
• Taking part in competitions and events
• Helpful approaches to different situations
At the end of every weekly whole school assembly, the house points for the week are announced with the children seeing how well each team has done. At the end of each term, once all house points are tallied, the winning house is awarded with their coloured ribbons on the House Cup.This system aims to encourage a real sense of pride and achievement for the children. It fosters community spirit and gives the children an opportunity to contribute to something bigger, which involves children from all year groups.
