Teaching is a challenging and highly rewarding career. The process of becoming a successful teacher is long and complex and requires support and training of the highest quality. Initial teacher training (ITT) is the important first step in the process and Bishop Ellis is proud to be a full partnership school for Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT.
School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) is a school based post-graduate training route for teachers. A feature of SCITT programmes is that it is a group of schools that take the lead in designing and managing the training programme. These schools can choose to work closely with a range of partners, including higher education institutions, teaching schools and LAs to ensure high quality provision of ITT.
The Leicester & Leicestershire SCITT is an outstanding provider (last inspection- November 2015). Our school benefits enormously from the SCITT, which enables us to have high-quality, extra adults in school, but also provides us with great newly-qualified teachers. We currently have 5 of teachers on our roll who have trained in the past with SCITT.
In the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT, there are currently 12 full partnership schools and between 35-50 Associate Partner schools, all from within Leicester City and Leicestershire LA geographical areas. Please click this link for more information on the SCITT and the courses.
